Inspection Services

NFPA 80 – 19.4.1.1, 2010 Edition States: Each fire damper shall be inspected one year after installation, and the frequency shall be every six years for hospitals. MOBs are required to be inspected every four years.

The following must be performed during a fire damper inspection and smoke damper inspection:

• Fusible links (where applicable) shall be removed for testing
• All fire dampers shall be operated to verify that they are fully close
• The latch (if provided) shall be checked and moving parts lubricated, if necessary
• Confirm there is no interference with the damper due to rust, misalignment, damaged frames or blades, defective hinges or parts, and bent tracks.
• All fire damper inspections and smoke damper inspections shall be documented, including the location, date of inspection, inspector, and applicable deficiencies.
• If the damper is not operable, the repairs should begin without delay.

Repair Services

An inoperable Damper must be Repaired without delay, per NFPA 80.

A code requirement is to fix inoperable smoke or fire dampers without delay. Therefore, once it is determined that you have a non-compliant damper, it’s time to schedule the repair. BRAND is sensitive to the AHJ timeline and can manage the repair process.

Advanced Documentation For Damper Inspections & Repairs

All damper inspections, repairs, labeling, and decommissions are conducted in strict adherence to NFPA codes. We utilize real-time digital reporting, which is securely uploaded to our server for easy access. Each report serves as a living document, beginning with the initial inspection of every damper. Subsequent inspections and repairs are documented within the same report, allowing facility personnel and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to view the complete history of each damper in one consolidated document.

This streamlined approach creates a more convenient and less confusing method for tracking each damper throughout its useful life. Additionally, we can document the dampers directly on your life safety prints to enhance clarity and compliance.
