Fire Door Inspection, Fire Door Repair, Labeling

BRAND is setting the bar for Fire Door Compliance. The newly adopted 2012 NFPA Life Safety Code requires healthcare facilities to adhere to NFPA 80, 2010 edition for Fire Doors.

NFPA 80 code 5.2.1 states: “Fire Door assemblies shall be inspected and tested not less than annually, and a written record of the inspection shall be signed and kept for review/verification by the AHJ.”

NFPA 80 code 5.2.3.1 states: “Functional testing of the Fire Door and window assemblies shall be performed by individuals with knowledge and understanding of the operating components of the type of door being subject to testing.”

Fire Door Inspections – All fire door inspections are performed to code standards by our Fire Door Inspection team. BRAND’s team of qualified fire door inspectors are proficient in NFPA 80 and are versed in the unique conditions of healthcare facilities. We exceed the minimum 11 items that shall be verified during a fire door inspection in NFPA 80 code 5.2.4.2. BRAND’s fire door inspectors receive training on an semi-annual basis to stay abreast of code changes and to continue providing quality fire door inspections.
Fire Door Repairs – All fire door repairs are performed to code standards by our Fire Door Repair team. Repairing Fire doors is technical, precise work that is difficult. The repairs take a unique skill set and a considerable amount of training. Our Fire Door Repair Team is highly qualified and trained to meet compliance standards.
Fire Door Labeling – Labels on fire doors, fire door frames, or other components of a fire door assembly, are the identifying mark that the fire door or component has been tested and has passed the criteria required by those test standards. Fire door labels should not be removed, defaced, or made illegible while the fire door is in service.

It is our belief that the personnel that provides the Fire Door Inspections should be different than the personnel that provides the repairs.

BRAND’s Fire Door team is split into Fire Door Inspectors and Fire Door Repair Technicians. Each fire door team has their unique set of skills to either provide full door component inspections or repairs as each scope provides its own skill set. All our Fire Door Inspectors and Fire Door Repair Technicians have formal training and certificates of competency for NFPA 80. All of BRAND’s personnel are in-house employees.

All fire door inspections, fire door repairs, labeling and decommissions adhere to the full NFPA code(s). Reporting is generated in real time, digitally and uploaded into our server. Our reports are issued as a living document starting with each door’s first inspection. Each subsequent fire door inspection or fire door repair will be documented within this same report. This allows facility personnel and AHJ’s to see the history of each door in one document; creating a more convenient and less confusing way to track each door during its useful life.
